gov. Matt Bevin on Thursday blamed Kentucky teachers sickouts for shooting a 7-year-old child.

During remarks to the Louisville Rotary Club, Bevin seemed to refer to a shooter in Shively on March 12, during which a 7-year-old girl was shot.

Sagittarius in Louisville City occurred around 3:06 At that time, the girl and her 11-year-old brother were alone in their home, while their caretaker, their uncle, was out, officials said.

At the beginning, the authorities said the child was taken from the Shively apartment to Norton Children‘s Hospital where she was left in critical but stable condition after having undergone surgery.

Shively Police said in a March 27 press release that the boy accidentally shot his sister. The girl “was listed in good condition, transferred to begin rehabilitation, eating solid food,” says the release.

The department has not responded to requests for additional information.

Jefferson County Public Schools were closed on the shooting day because of a teacher sickout. It was the fourth of six days. JCPS was closed due to sickouts between February 28 and March 14.

Most JCPS primary schools dismiss at 15:45 according to the district’s website, although it is not unclear whether the children participated in the JCPS.

A JCPS spokeswoman on Thursday said the police did not reveal the identity of juvenile protection victims and said she was not immediately aware of whether the children who participated in Shively shooting were JCPS students.

The Kentucky Democratic Party quickly released a statement that revoked Bevin’s claim.

“Governor Bevin’s continued attack on teachers is disgusting and inexcusable,” said Marisa McNee, Party language woman. “He’s completely out of control. Kentuckians deserve better than this.”

This is not the first time Bevin has claimed that teacher protests led to acts of violence against children.

Even: Matt Bevin is the least popular governor of the United States, according to poll

After a teacher rally in April 2018 closing dozens of school districts across Kentucky, Bevin told without evidence that reporters that children were sexually assaulted or married married somewhere in the state because teachers were not in the class.

“I guarantee you somewhere in Kentucky today, a child was sexually abused that was left at home because there was no one there to see them,” Bevin said. “I guarantee you somewhere today, a child was physically injured or married because they were left alone because a single parent had no money to care for them.”
