ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) –

On the eve of the Veterans Day, tens of thousands of US Navymen celebrate the 24rd anniversary of the Corps 24th Saturday night.

A group of navalists from and around Charlottesville community celebrated in Keswick on Saturday, November 10. The troops had a traditional birthday cake and were able to catch up with old friends.

“The purpose is for all Marines to come together and celebrate our covenant, our history and our traditions and what we have achieved and to come together as friends,” said US Marine Corps Colonel James Kelley.

Saturday’s event kicked off the group’s annual Toys for Tots campaign. Community members were invited to bring new toys to the event, which will then be donated to children in need.

The participants also participated in a silent auction, where revenues will go toward helping the fighting marinas in society.

Marines will continue to celebrate Sunday by honoring all military veterans.

US Legion Post 74 will host its ceremony at the Albemarle County Office building at. 14.30 on Sunday, November 11th.
