With free air waiting in the wings on Thanksgiving Day, Long Island can make a Tuesday getaway for the holiday, and there may be some showers in the morning, with the cloud clearing in the afternoon, predictors say.
Look for “dry weather weather this evening,” said News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman. The highest number of New Yorkers traveling to Thanksgiving plans to go after work on Tuesday, according to the AAA Northeast.
The temperature continues to hold much of the day in the mid-40s, said National Weather Service.
Wednesday gives some sunshine and clouds like winds from west-northwest picking up, gusting to 25 mph, said Hoffman. Look for high in the low 40’s. An early evening rain or snow shower can also be on the picture, he said.
It’s like an Arctic blast moves in, which paves the way for what is expected to be record-cooled air for Thanksgiving Day, says forecasters. [1

The day is heated to 27 degrees or so, says the weather service, feels much colder with wind cooling. Temperatures take another nose dive to about 15 degrees early in the morning friday.
