American luminaires expressed respect and gratitude for former President George H.W. Bush, who died Friday at the age of 94 years.

In tweets and statements they expressed respect for their leadership, community service and the country’s love.

President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump said he “set the scene for decades of prosperity that has followed.”

“With sound judgment, common sense and unforgivable leadership, our nation and the world guided a peaceful and victorious conclusion of the Cold War, “Trumps said in a statement Friday night.

Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama said, “While our hearts are heavy today, they are also filled with gratitude.”

“Not only for the years he spent as our forty-first president, but for more than 70 years, he has spent a dedicated mission to the country he loved – from a decorated seafarer who almost gave his life during World War II to the commander of our armed forces, with lots of posts under the way, “Obama said in a statement. “George HW Bush’s life is proof that public service is a noble, pleasing call.”

Bush’s grandson, George P. Bush, tweeted “My grandfather was the greatest man I ever knew. His life stretched over the American century – he fought during World War II … participated in the oil bomb in Texas … served a prominent career in public service, including serving as president during the last days of the Cold War. “

James A. Baker III, who served as Chief of Staff and Secretary of State under Bush and as Bush counted his closest friends, said he “will be etched forever in America and the world.”

“It is a lifelong record of selfless patriotic service to our nation,” he said. “… He led with strength, integrity, compassion and humility – qualities that define a really good man.”

Fred Ryan, president of Ronald Reagan’s presidency and institute, called the leadership of former President Reagan and Bush, who served as his vice president, “a remarkable partnership.”

“When they reignited the US economy, tyranny was ravaged worldwide and restored the United States pride and purpose, President Reagan relieved his Vice President’s peace, strength, loyalty and wisdom,” said Ryan. “In all that the administration achieved, President Reagan once noted:” Nobody has been closer to my side and has contributed more to our success than George Bush. “

In a statement, Bush’s vice president Dan Quayle said that he always looked up to his former boss.

” I have often said to my children: “If you want a model in your life, make sure President George Herbert Walker Bush, “he said in a statement.” The world saves the loss of a great American, but it also celebrates a living life. “

Nonprofit Founded by Bush, Points of Light tweeted that he was “a kind, compassionate and humble man, a leader who believed in the service for the improvement of society.”

“We go with millions of people worldwide and celebrate their lives and legacy tonight,” says the organization.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said on Twitter that Bush was dedicated to the American people.

“We’ve lost a great American,” he said. “Service defined President George HW Bush’s life, and he taught us all about leadership, sacrifice and decency.”
