It only carries goods – in this case foodstuffs – and supplies deliveries to a freeze food store site in Scottsdale, Arizona. Customers can place orders online or through the store’s app and then schedule delivery the same day or next day. Orders will be delivered by either a self-driving Prius or Nuro R1
Arizona is a sauna for autonomous vehicle research, largely due to state openness to technology. A number of companies including Uber, Waymo, Intel and GM have tested their propulsion technology in Arizona and the state has created an autonomous vehicle research institute aimed at developing industry standards and best practice.
“Nuro represents a world without cases where everything is on demand and can be delivered cheaply,” said President Dave Ferguson in a statement. “Driving a delivery service with our own unmanned vehicles is an important first step towards the goal”
