The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appeared to be high spirits last night when they arrived at London’s Banqueting House, where Prince William spoke and gave three awards.
It is a special night for Prince William, who became a royal protector in December 2005.
He often supports the organization, which aims to promote conservation and combat illegal wilderness trade.
Tusk Trust was founded in 1990 at the height of the earlier poaching crisis, when thousands of elephants and rhinos were slaughtered.
Prince William said, “African wildlife suffers as much as its people.”
“Like so many others, I’m deeply saddened by the number of elephants, rhinoceros and pangolin that have been illegally slaughtered for their teeth, horns and daring. But the illegal wilderness trade also has a devastating human impact.”
“Too many brave Rangers are tragically killed every year by poachers. The communities see that their tourist outreach is threatened. And the revenues from the illegal wilderness trade bank wider criminal networks and threaten security.
“That’s why I’m committed to doing what I can to help end this horrible global crime. This will be a special focus for my upcoming visit to Africa, and of course, the conference on illegal wilderness trade here in London in October. “
