Sportsbooks set the sum for Monday’s matchup between Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams on an astronomical 64 – and the two teams blown it over with 41 points.

Michael Grodsky, spokesman for William Hill, who has 108 sports books in Nevada, told ESPN that the game was a “healthy shuffle loss” for the book, with 69 percent of the customers betting over.

The game had been opened and closed at 64, the highest over / under in an NFL game since at least 1986, according to ESPN Stats & Information Research.

  • A game like quarterback Jared Goff fittingly called “Four Fourths of Madness” saw Rams and Chiefs combined to add multiple entries to the NFL record book on Monday night

  • Patrick Mahomes threw for a career high 478 yards and a Monday night football record six touchdowns, but he lost two fumbles and threw three INT.

  • Chiefs stud Kareem Hunt has seven receiving touchdowns and seven rushing touchdowns – a feat not ac soon since Lenny Moore did it 57 years since 1961.

The previous highest sum in ESPN’s database was 62 in a November 2000 game between St. Louis Rams and San Francisco 49ers, who Rams won 34-24.

The Rams opened this weekend as consensus 1-point favorites in Las Vegas sports books and the line was betting up to Rams -2.5 last Monday before they were taken by the board due to uncertainty as to where the game was to be played. The game eventually moved to Los Angeles after worry about the field situation in Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca.

The line was resumed in Vegas books on Rams -3.5 before it closed at -3.
