The Chrome browser started to get a little bad pressure after add-on issues and then worry about automatic logins. Google listened to the complaints and promised to do something about it – the result is Chrome 70.
But Chrome 70 is about more than just security and privacy changes. Google has also used this release to present a handful of new features. One of the best is Picture-in-Picture mode (PiP) that allows you to continue watching a video in an overlay while continuing to browse other sites. This is how you use it.
If you have not already done so, you must update your copy of Chrome to version 70. To do so, just press the menu button and click Help> About Google Chrome. Chrome will check for updates and make sure you have the latest version installed.
With this you are ready to experience image-in-picture.
If the function works depends entirely on whether the owner of a website has enabled it, so you will not be able to use PiP with any video you encounter. However, it works on YouTube, and this is a great place to test it.
- Find a video and start playing.
- Right-click the video window and the YouTube menu appears.
- Right click again and the Chrome menu will appear.
- Select the Image option in image and you’re good at walking.
One thing to note: While you can browse other sites when the video is played in a popout, you must keep the original tab open.
