The Burlington County couple and the homeless vet for whom they launched a fundraising campaign will all face charges for supposedly making up the viral sob story in order to scam money, NBC reported Wednesday night.

The couple, Mark D ‘ Amico and Kate McClure, of Florence, and the homeless man, Johnny Bobbitt, will face charges that include conspiracy and theft by deception after they allegedly fabricated the story to raise over $ 400,000 through an ultra-successful GoFundMe campaign, the report stated. [19659002] The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office did not confirm the charges Wednesday but told CBS that an announcement on the case was scheduled for Thursday at 2 pm

McClure and D’Amico turned themselves to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, but it was unclear if Bobbitt also turned himself in, NBC reported.

McLure said last November that she ran out of gas and became stranded on I-95 in Philadelphia and that Bo bbitt spent his last $ 20 to help her fill this tank.

The couple launched a GoFundMe campaign to repay him and help get the 35-year-old former North Carolina resident back on his feet as the story garnered national attention.

The couple’s home was raided in September and their personal and business financial statements were seized, but the couple’s home was filed a lawsuit in September, saying that he had not been given full access to the funds. No charges were filed against them, according to NBC.
