According to SuperBroMovies, among the directors currently on Marvel’s shortlist for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is Dee Rees, Michelle MacLaren, S.J. Clarkson and Jane Campion. Keep in mind that although these women really take into account Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 does not mean that any of them will necessarily get the job. There may be other names that are kicked around, and we can not discount that someone could lift the gig that is never even rumored. Nevertheless, let’s go over each of these four women’s CVs.
Dee Rees made her own film film debuting with 2008 Eventual Salvation and nearly a decade later she delivered the Oscar-nominated Netflix film Mudbound . Earlier this year, Rees Ryan Coogler praised the work of Black Panther so maybe she would be interested in contributing to MCU.
The Michelle MacLaren is best known for controlling episodes of television shows such as Breaking Bad Thrones Games and The Deuce but she will soon make the jump to the big screen with Cowboy Ninja Viking . The MacLaren was originally supposed to target Wonder Woman but due to creative differences, she left and Patty Jenkins replaced her. Maybe Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may be the MacLaren’s ability to return to the superhero gene.
Like Michelle MacLaren, S.J. Clarkson has an impressive TV CV, which includes Dexter Jessica Jones and The Defenders among many others. In April, Clarkson was employed to steer Star Trek 4 but as this movie is currently in limbo because Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth leave, they wonder if she can be pulled from it to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 .
Finally, Jane Campion is undoubtedly best known for managing 1993’s The Piano who earned her an Oscar for best director’s nomination. Campion is currently watching TV Series Top of the Lake but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may be a way for her to leave a brand in the world of film cutting.
Something tells me that we will hear if more directors are called for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in the near future, but these names are a promising start. Obviously, it is difficult for anyone employed as a new director to fill James Gunn’s shoes and get the same kind of energy he is infused in the first two films but at least they will not lack the talent department.
