Google Gaming Console Controller surfaces in newly discovered patents

A newly discovered patent may have shown the design and features of the Google's renowned game console controller, which, apparently, will be revealed this month. The patent is not for the regulator itself, but rather for a notification system. It will allow the controller to let the player know if a game becomes available, if the player has received an invitation, if there are changes to a leaderboard and if a chat request was received. The document, filed with the United States States Patent and Trademark Office, comes with images that reveal the design of the controller, similar to the PlayStation 4 DualShock control. There are two joysticks, one directional plate, four game buttons and pairs of shaft and release buttons. It also appears to be home and back buttons at the top of the control unit, a circular button that Google referred to in the patent as an action button and the microphone button between the joysticks that may indicate compatibility with Google Assistant. [19659002] The patent was filed in October last year, and is a continuation of an earlier application submitted in 2014. This means that it may have been changes in the controller's design, if the patent is really for the rumored game console from Google. The rumored game console from Google is known as the Project Yeti, which aims to run high-performance titles on Google’s machines and then stream them to devices owned by players. Part of the Project Yeti is Project Stream, which completed a three-month demo in January that successfully streamed Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on Chrome browsers.

The Project Yeti hardware was estimated to be a Chromecast dongle, but has since evolved into a console and controls designed by Google, rumored to be revealed at the Game Developers Conference on March 19.

It is still unclear whether the controller in the discovered patent will be what Google will reveal at GDC 2019, if rumors are true. The event is only a week away but so official confirmation may come soon.
