George W. Bush: For Us, Dad Was Near Perfect Former President George W. Bush talks with his father, former President…
When George W. Bush told his father George H.W. Bush “had only a few minutes to live” last week, the former president immediately called him.
The janitor who answered the phone at that time told him that his father had been quiet most of the day, even though he noted George H.W. Bush would probably hear him if he spoke. So he left the 94-year-old phone when Bush began to say his final farewell.
“I said,” Dad, I love you and you have been a wonderful father, “Bush said when he handed his fame on Wednesday at the Washington National Cathedral.” And the last words he would ever say on earth were, “I love you too. “”

“He was firm in his principles and supportive when we began searching our own ways,” Bush commented while speaking on a podium. “He encouraged and comforted but never ruled.”
“We tested his patience – I know I did,” Bush laughed. “But he always responded with the great gift of unconditional love.”
