From now Amazon can leave your package in the trunk of the car

Remember when we told you that Amazon was going to start using drones to deliver orders and that even I could go into your house to leave the packages inside? Well, now Jeff Bezos’ company has gone one step further . As you can read in the headline of this post, the e-commerce giant has launched a new option for Amazon Key thanks to which the distributors They can open your car and leave your orders inside . This has been baptized as Amazon Key-In-Car , and is available now for certain Prime members.

The service, which is completely free, can only be used by Amazon Prime customers who live in one of the 37 US cities chosen for initial deployment (and adjoining areas), a figure that will increase with the passage of time. For this it is necessary have one of the compatible vehicles (which, in addition, must be connected to the Amazon account) and have it parked in a public access area (no private parking, for example).

To begin, users should Download the Amazon Key app and link it to your Amazon account which, in turn, must be connected to the car. Once it has been configured and the shipping address has been registered, customers can choose the In-Car mode to receive their orders in the trunk or inside the car itself. The day of the deal, the Amazon Key application will warn customers if their car is parked within the allowed range , in addition to notifying them that the delivery has been completed. You can also check when the car itself has been unlocked and locked .

Some customers could try this service before its launch. These are your impressions

This distribution method is available to all those customers with a Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac from 2015 onwards that have an OnStar service account, in addition to those that have a Volvo (also from 2015 onwards) with Volvo On Call activated . Amazon says that it will be adding support for more brands and models over time.

Speaking of security , from Amazon they claim that “Every time an In-Car repair request is received, Amazon verifies that an authorized driver is in the correct location with the correct package, through an encrypted authentication process. Once this process is completed successfully, the car is unlocked. Customers receive a notification through the Amazon Key app after completing the delivery and the vehicle is blocked again. Special codes or keys for delivery drivers are never provided ” .

Another interesting point of Amazon Key is that Allows the user to open and close the car remotely from anywhere, as it already happens with the smart locks available to the company. For now it is unknown if this service will reach Spain or other countries other than the United States . We will be attentive to future developments. For now, we launched the question on the air: do you think this new distribution method is interesting?
