Four family members have been arrested by authorities after a nine-year-old boy’s death in the eastern French town of Mulhouse on Sunday.
The child was mortally hit with a brush handle and other “blunt objects” after refusing to do their homework, according to local reports.

The boy’s elder brother, sister and placemates were all at home at that time and subsequently arrested. The mother, who was gone on business but allegedly encouraged physical punishment, is believed to have been aware of the incident and remains in police custody.
Local reports indicated that the official cause of death was cardiac arrest,
9-year-old brother is suspected of performing the murder, but the investigation continues to continue.

The boy’s death comes to the heeling of two proposals appearing at the National Assembly of France to wipe out the parental authority to use “humiliating means such as physical or verbal violence, bodily punishment and moral abuse “and for all children to receive education without violence.
The boy’s death has caused an outbreak of shock in the local community, with several residents supporting the parents in vigilance in the city center in the hours after the tragedies were present.
