ST. LOUIS (AP) – Synthetic fentanyl drives the near record number of drug overdose in St. Petersburg. Louis area this year.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the highly potent painkiller is involved in almost all opioid doses in and around St. Louis. Louis.
Brandon Costerison from the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse says St Louis City and the county are in line to see a record number of deaths overdosed this year. The St. Louis region had no more than 760 opioid related deaths last year.
Costerison states that fentanyl was identified in up to 95 percent of St. Louiss overdose death. It is well above the national average where fentanyl was involved in almost half of the drugs overdose across the country last year.
Fentanyl may be unconsciously mixed with or sold as heroin, cocaine or methamphetamine.
