Ex-Flynn business relations were charged with trying to influence American politicians

US authorities said the aim of the lobby project was to relegate the extradition of Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen who has lived in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania since 1999. The Turkish government and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan blame Gulen for a failed attempt to coup against him in 2016, which Gulen has denied and has been aggressive

President Donald Trump said last month that he does not consider giving out Gulen.

The alleged plot, the Justice Department said in a press release involved with a company founded by Kian and Flynn to “delegate the Turkish citizen to the US public and the American politicians’ eyes” to pave the way for his extradition. US authorities claim that senior members of the Turkish government approved funding for gambit and Alptekin kept them updated on its progress.

Kian’s lawyer did not respond immediately to a request for comment on Monday. Last year, among the news that his work was under federal investigation, Alptekin defended himself on Twitter and denied the allegations.

“I have never lobbied or contracted lobbyists on behalf of the Turkish Government,” tweeted in March 2017. He repeated statements for many months, tweeting in December 2017: “The Turkish The government did NOT give supervision or direction to the work I ordered “from Flynn’s company.

Flynn was accused by Mueller to lie to investigators last year, including his work with Flynn Intel Group Inc. in Turkey. A federal judge in Washington DC will judge Flynn on Tuesday.

The former national security adviser is not guilty of the Virginia case against his colleagues because the federal prosecutors have said that Flynn provided “significant help” by collaborating with Mueller and other investigations, probably including the case of Kian and Alptekin.

Throughout the Turkish lobby case, published Monday, Flynn is called “Person A.” The prosecution describes Kian who discusses with the Flynn meeting with Turkish leaders and accepts payments via Flyn’s companies in 2016 for lobbying. They worked on the lobby project no later than October 2016, one month before Trump won the election and Flynn helped with the presidential transition.
