Today has been presented the OnePlus 6, a device that integrates the same SoC that a Samsung Galaxy S9 or LG G7 and that aims to be one of the most competitive high-end, but the truth is that if we take a look at what is the evolution of the OnePlus price to this day, there is a fact that keeps calling us attention: they are becoming more expensive. If you do not believe us, you just have to keep reading, we’ll show you.

It is not that we intend to detract from the work done by Pete Lau and his team, since the OnePlus 6 seems to us a very good device and still has a price much cheaper than that of companies like LG, Samsung, Apple or Sony, but also It is true that if you follow the current trend, OnePlus could be in a serious bind.

And is that however much we want, their devices are always going to be somewhat below in innovation and design of the referents of the market, and nobody will want to buy a OnePlus if it costs the same as a Samsung Galaxy, no matter how good the device.

The same company as always? Maybe not

During the presentation of the OnePlus 6 its creators have said that they are still that innovative start-up that gave the same as the more premium competition at mid-range prices, but little by little the price difference is diluted, and if not, there is only have a look at what has been the evolution of the OnePlus price:

  • OnePlus One : It went on the market with a price of € 269 for the 16GB version and of € 299 for the 64G ,. both with 3 GB of RAM.
  • OnePlus 2 : the 16 GB version cost 339 euros , while the 64 GB went up to the 399 euros. Here we already see an increase of 70 and 100 euros respectively. They charged us quite expensive the 4 GB of RAM.
  • OnePlus 3 : cost 399 euros get their only version of 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB storage. Here the OnePlus people were benevolent and gave us an extra 2 GB of RAM at the same price.

  • OnePlus 5 : it cost 499 euros the version of 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB storage. The version of 8 GB and 128 GB reached the 559 euros. Here we find another remarkable rise, since OnePlus sells us the same 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage per 100 euros more of price … If we want to boast of storage and RAM, we will have to pay 60 euros extra.
  • OnePlus 5T: In what already seems a phased strategy, OnePlus returns to nail prices making us think about why some improvements have cost and others do not.
  • OnePlus 6: the latest from this chinese company has a price of 519 euros for the most basic model ( 6 + 64 GB ) and makes us pay 569 euros for the same 8+ 128 GB available are the OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5. Therefore, it costs us 20 euros more expensive the basic version and 10 euros more for the intermediate version. If we want 256 GB of storage, it will cost us to pay 619 euros , that is, 50 euros more for 128 GB of storage, a price similar to that of a desktop SSD.

As you can see, it’s not that the price rise from the OnePlus 5T to the OnePlus 6 is very high, but the brand has exceeded for the first time psychological threshold of 600 euros , and we can not help but wonder how it is that if the price of technology becomes cheaper, manufacturers continue to raise their prices more and more as they expand the performance of their devices.

If in 10 years we have smartphones with 4 TB of storage (ups, that that will come this year ), it is scary to think at what price the improvements in memory will charge us.

And yes, we know that a smartphone not only increases in price for your hardware internal; we have in mind that a premium glass construction has an extra cost on polycarbonate and that VIP companies have already reached 1000 euros, but even so, we can not stop thinking that the low price of the first OnePlus was like the first free dose of a drug, something that has hooked us to the brand and that now makes us look kindly at whatever price it offers, provided it does not cost what a Galaxy, of course.

What do you think about the evolution of the OnePlus price? Do you think that OnePlus is no longer as attractive as it was at the beginning? Where do you think roof prices will touch?
