A top Egyptian antiques official says local archaeologists have discovered Seven Pharaonic Age tombs near the capital Cairo containing dozens of cat mummies along with wooden statues that show other animals and birds.
Of the statues found, those showing cats the majority, reflecting the old Egyptians of the glory, showed cats whose god Bastet was grown.

Egypt has whipped publicity for its new historical discoveries, hoping to revive a devastated tourism sector, still recovering from the turmoil after a rebellion in 2011, topping up long-term autocrat Hosni Mubarak.
