Early signing period Storylines like Ryan Day and Buckeyes are looking to solidify things for 2019 recruiting the class

It's the early signing period, and the next three days will be the most important moments for the 2019 recruitment class. The expectation is that the vast majority (70-80 percent) of the country's prospects will sign with their optional school between Wednesday and Friday. Some of these players took the decision a long time ago while others are still waiting to let the world know their intentions. Buckeyes has 16 commitments a week and at the moment it appears that 14 of them are stuck with their promises. Four-star defensive back commit Jordan Battle looks unlikely (more on him later) and West Virginia offensive linewoman Doug Nester explores his options. There seems to be no concern at four-star athlete Steele Chambers, but at last, he planned to wait for February to sign. This class will look a bit different and those who have become accustomed to Ohio State with 25 signals should probably lower these expectations a bit. It can be tricky to get the class up to 20, but the January build-up to the traditional signing day would certainly change things. With all that is said, there are several storylines to watch in the next few days. Harrison Saga Coming To A Close The time is finally here. Harrison Saga Coming To A Close

The time is finally here. Lewis Centers Zach Harrison will send his letter of intent to one of the top ten best programs and we all know their choice last Wednesday afternoon. Earlier today, Olentangy North announced that it will be a 12:30 p.m. the life stream but there will not be a ceremony or something that is open to the public .

It seems that nobody knows exactly what the five star will do on Wednesday, and it’s no surprise given that the child does not talk about his recruitment and seems to really dislike the whole process. Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State have all been rumored to be out in front of one point or another, and he could side with any of the three schools.

The latest vibes from the Lewis Center can only be taken as a positive to Buckeyes.

Larry Johnson, Al Washington and James Franklin have been key figures in recruitment and Harrison has expressed a strong relationship with all three. Does he want to come home from home? Is he worried about losing to Ohio State? Does he understand that John’s leadership can help him reach his maximum potential?

We will find out Wednesday when Johnson and Day could get some great news.

Flips difficult to get after

Ohio State has had its views on some goals taken elsewhere. Nick Broeker, an offensive tackle from Springfield, Illinois, is an Ole Miss commit who has thought about Buckeyes. The three-star is expected to sign Thursday and right now, all signs of him who end up in Oxford point out. A December official to Columbus took place, but he could very well hold on to the rebels.

Toledo’s Cavon Butler is mortgaged to Kentucky and his recruitment has been an interesting one. Right now, Ohio State is not pushing for defensive tackles, but I guess there’s a chance – albeit unlikely – he gets the green light before the end of the early period. With things that look extremely promising on the Jaden McKenzie front, Butler is likely to end up in Lexington or East Lansing.

Clayton Northmonts Jestin Jacobs is engaged in Iowa and there is absolutely no indication that Ohio State will be the landing ground. The star star has been to Columbus twice since last month’s offer, but it really looks like Kirk Ferentz and Hawkeye staff have done enough to secure the Ohio 7th prospect. Without any unworked, the Army All American will sign with Iowa on Wednesday.

Battle Verdict Looming

We have pretty much written off Jordan Battle at this time. St. Thomas Aquinas first star, an Urban Meyer recruitment might be more than any other in the 2019 class. Even before Meyer’s retirement age, there were some questions about his status, and they only intensified after retirement.

But is there a chance that Buckeyes can hold the valued defender this week? I would say it is unlikely, and he is likely to end up in Tuscaloosa, but the fact that he has not twisted yet gives us a glimpse of hope. Ohio State checked in with Battle last week and rumors circulated that staff were informed that he would not come to Columbus. Most expected a flip to happen shortly thereafter, but we are still waiting for it to happen.

Alabama has commitments from three corners and two shelters, and one has to wonder exactly how many defensive backs the tide can take; especially when the class already sits at 24 and there are several other high caliber goals on the board.

Surprise, Surprise?

As always, it’s never wise to rule out the chance of a surprise. We have seen some strange signature stories in the past with random flips from players like Darius Slade 2014. Is there anything possible on the horizon for this week (except what’s already happening to Justin Fields)?

We have talked about him before, but three-star Ohio University Tight End commit Tyler Foster may be the guy to watch. Is there any reason to believe that Pickerington’s native is on the verge of a flip? Not necessarily, and the main reason we have kept an eye on this is that Buckeyes should have free space and Foster has been on campus several times in the last two months.

Timing of It All

What we now know is that Harrison Live Stream will fly at 12:30. Mentor’s early ceremony begins at 9:00 so that’s when Noah Potter and Ryan Jacoby will make things official. Cade Stover will sign at 3:00 PM Four-star quarterback Dwan Mathis is slated to sign at 9:00, but it remains to see if Justin Fields rumors can change things on that front. Buford, Georgia’s Harry Miller will be around 11:00 in the morning.

It will be a lot of activity all day because Ohio State Twitter accounts tend to update the masses as soon as things are official. We obviously have plenty of updates too, so be sure to be dialed to 11W when the fax arrives.
