SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) –
Ray Taliaferro, a peaceful liberal who from 1977 to 2011 hosted an overall talk program on the KGO, has been found dead.
His son tells ABC7 News his father’s body was found behind Brooks Stadium in Paducah Ky.
Taliaferro had been missing for three weeks. His son tells ABC7 that there was no luck getting in touch with his late father’s wife.
The FBI assists in the investigation.
Taliaferro, 79, was notified on November 10, according to the Massac County Sheriff’s Department, based in Metropolis, Ill., Across the Ohio River from Paducah.
Further details about Taliaferro’s death is not clear at this time.
His son gave the ABC7 News the following statement confirming his death:
“It is very sad that the Taliafero family must announce passing Ray Taliaferro. His body was found in Paducah, Kentucky in a wooded area about one miles from where he was last seen. The family appreciates the support and help we received when looking for Ray. This is a devastating end to our search for him in recent weeks. The family is working with the police to learn the things surrounding his death . At this time, we treat this event and ask for integrity when we work through our loss. “ Before he disappeared, the once San Francisco r adio host was last seen in Paducah on November 10th. A flyer issued by the Paducah Police Department stated that “Ray was last seen talking to the manager of the Mellow Mushroom pizza restaurant in Paducah. He can experience disorientation and signs of dementia.”
Taliaferro has a long professional CV that includes San Francisco chapter of the NAACP. He is also credited as the first Black Talk show hosted in a major market radio station (New York City) and is called San Francisco’s first black member in the Arts Commission.
