Eagles should shop for Browns RB Duke Johnson

But wouldn't Johnson just be another player similar to Corey Clement? In my opinion, no. While Clement did have some good moments during the Eagles Super Bowl run, he regressed in his second season with the team, albeit when he dealt with some injuries. Nevertheless, even if he were to come from his Super Bowl performance, it would be prudent for the eagles not to overestimate a small sample size. Yes, Clement did a good catch in the Super Bowl, but he has 32 catches in 27 regular season games. Johnson has 235 catches in 64 matches. There are 1.2 catches per game vs. 3.7 per game. Johnson is a much more accomplished and experienced passenger from the backfield. In addition, Clement can recover from a serious injury. Buried deep in paragraph 19 in a piece about Howard, Les Bowen of the Daily News noted that Clement ripped his ACL. Emphasis My: Howard, who entered the last season of his rookie contract, said he didn't talk to any coach about his role. The eagles could still throw a run back this year. They have Corey Clement rehabbing a grated ACL 2018 undrafted rookie Josh Adams and Smallwood. More to that point, no back will ever pour a ton of berries into Doug Pederson's crime. Just as importantly, Johnson has shown so far that he can stay in the field because he has never missed a game in his four-year NFL career.

But wouldn’t Johnson just be another player similar to Corey Clement?

In my opinion, no. While Clement did have some good moments during the Eagles Super Bowl run, he regressed in his second season with the team, albeit when he dealt with some injuries. Nevertheless, even if he were to come from his Super Bowl performance, it would be prudent for the eagles not to overestimate a small sample size. They have Corey Clement rehabbing a grated ACL 2018 undrafted rookie Josh Adams and Smallwood. More to that point, no back will ever pour a ton of berries into Doug Pederson’s crime.

PhillyVoice stretched out to the eagles, but they would neither confirm nor deny Bowen’s note on Clement. (To note, they would usually deny something of this kind if it was in their favor, as it would be in this case for leverage if they actually speak actively with other teams to add backs.)

Speaking at owner meetings In Phoenix last week, both Howie Roseman and Doug Pederson noted that the three backs played in the Super Bowl were all added after the 2017 draft. Just for fun, here’s their quote:

“The three backs that played in the Super Bowl, all the guys we acquired after the draft were in 2017, “Roseman said last Tuesday.

] “Well, we won a Super Bowl with three guys we got after the draft,” Pederson repeated the next morning.

Cool. It may be true, but it doesn’t just make a good idea, and the eagles really understand it. Meanwhile, he Browns has been busy “valuing” Johnson, and not just giving him up:

Yes, OK, except Browns wrote under Johnson’s compensation in Kareem Hunt, and General Manager John Dorsey has already traded a boatload of players from the previous regime, including Emmanuel Ogbah, Kevin Zeitler, Jabrill Peppers, Carlos Hyde, Josh Gordon, Shon Coleman, Corey Coleman Jason Taylor , Kevin Hogan, Cody Kessler, Jason McCourty, DeShone Kizer and Danny Shelton.

Although Johnson’s situation may be a little different in that Dorsey gave him an extension of the contract’s last season, it is still quite clear that he is not in the team’s long-term plans.

The eagles are not stupid. They know that Johnson can be obtained, and probably at a cheap price. Conversely, Brown’s is not stupid either, and they can very clearly see that the eagle’s best reception options from the backfield are a 36-year-old who cannot be healthy and a newly reworked free agent who probably has a broken ACL.

Of course, the eagles can take a guy from a weak springback class in the 2019 draft. Maybe they beat gold there, or maybe they end up with another Donnel Pumphrey.

Eagles MO, but even though they “ won a Super Bowl with three guys, they got After the draft of 2017,” has been filling holes with competent veterans before the draft, so that they can be true to the board and not have to reach position positions.

Make no mistake. A passing back is still an important need, and while a deal for Johnson should not prohibit continuing to address the position in the draft, it would help strengthen what is currently a fairly clear hole.

* Regarding Johnson’s “tasty” contract, a number of people have not agreed that he is currently the 11th highest paid RB in the league for AAV, at $ 5,203,333 / year . It’s totally misleading, because Brown’s would eat a bit of it.

Yes, J ohnson signed three years, $ 15.6 million contract extension with Brown’s last season, corresponding to 5, $ 2 million per season. If he were to be traded, his payroll over the next three seasons with his new team would be $ 1.8 million in 2019, $ 3.6 million in 2020 and $ 4.65 million in 2021, with $ 500K bonuses he would receive each year as long as he works out and stays on the roster. It is also my understanding that the eagles can also free him without punishment in any way after acting for him.
