Two hours to Sunday night football match between New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers, NBC moved a new version of a very repudiated campaign ad from President Donald Trump. The 30-second site, which featured the image of an unauthorized immigrant colonel, urged viewers to vote for the Republic to stop an “invasion” of poor Central American immigrants passing through Mexico against the United States
It was the closure of an administration that spent the week before the middle of the election that produces an immigration crisis and then blames the Democrats for it.
President Donald Trump described a caravan of Central American immigrants as an “invasion” during a press conference at the White House on November 1.
Almost every day last week, the White House struck immigration into the center of national politics. The Pentagon announced plans to send out about 5 200 troops to the border with Mexico. Trump said that he planned to eliminate the constitutional guarantee of birth certificate citizenship of executive fiat. He announced a forthcoming plan to prevent migrants crossing illegally from claiming asylum and imprisoning them indefinitely in tent towns. Hearing him speaking at a press conference on Thursday, it seems that the United States faces an attack on illegal immigration.
None of this reflects reality. During the last eight years, the illegal border crossings have been at their lowest level since the 1970s.
But the strategy of a president pushed the White House by making demanding immigration claims. Towards a election cycle that breaks the Republican majority in the House of Representatives, the president’s message is clear: voters owe the Democrats to an unprecedented disaster at the border.
The ad – like NBC abandoned together with Fox and Facebook, following a big backlash – is part of Trump’s strategy of drumming the caravan’s fear among his bass. CNN declined to fly it and called it “racist”.
It is also purely fake.
Luis Bracamontes, the unauthorized immigrant in Trump’s ad, was sentenced in 2014 to kill two politicians from Sacramento and has nothing to do with the caravan.
The original version of the advertisement that Trump published on Twitter was even more blatantly dishonest. After showing a cut off Bracamontes ranting in court on how to fly and kill others, it claimed that Democrats let him enter the country and let him stay. The then carries it to the video of the caravan, which gives the impression that it consists of a similar enemy.
Nobody left Bracamontes. He was deported twice, once in 1997 and again in 2001.
Some critics of the advert have noted that the last time he went illegally in the country seems to have been under the presidency of George W. Bush . He did not lock Bracamontes in either. In fact, Bracamontes avoided law enforcement, which in itself is not remarkable. The success rate of people trying to enter the country illegally several times never baptized 96 percent until 2008, according to the Migration Project the most comprehensive sociological database to track migration across the US-Mexico border.
Indicates that the immigrant carriage consists of dangerous criminals as Bracamontes are as unsustainable as the claim that democrats release. Among the thousands of people traveling through Mexico in the main car are 2300 children according to UNICEF USA. Migrants are not tied into caravans as any kind of invading force but as a means of seeking protection in numbers from human trafficking.
The major challenge facing the US at the border is how to effectively manage an increase in the number of families in Central America and children who apply for asylum or request other forms of humanitarian aid for expulsion. But that trend is from 2014, so it’s hardly new.
It will not be clear until after the mid-term election whether Trump will follow through on his block of immigration ceilings. But with less than 24 hours to the election day, the more immediate question is how voters will respond to their statements.
Mass migration from Mexico had disappeared seven years before Trump launched its presidency campaign by disappearing Mexican immigrants as criminals and rapists and blaming “Democratic Democrats” for an immigration crisis that did not exist. The strategy helped him get him in 2016. On Tuesday we will see if it works for him again.
