WASHINGTON – One day after prosecutors involved him in a hush money conspiracy to avoid campaign laws, President Donald Trump continued on Saturday to say that Russia’s investigation did not give anything.
“After two years and millions of pages of documents (and a cost of over $ 30,000,000), NO COLLECTION!” Trump tweeted saturday. In another tweet, Trump said it was “Time for the Witch Hunt to End!”
He did not work out.
The president claimed one day after federal prosecutors, by recommending prison for former Trump attorney Michael Cohen, Trump involved in a system to pay hush money to two women who claimed to have had business with him.
Prosecutors said the president – identified in court documents as the “Individual-1” – directed Cohen to make payments to women in an attempt to buy his silence just before the election.
The unreported payments amounted to campaign contributions, and to hide them was a violation of campaign funding laws, prosecutors said.
Cohen, who has pleaded guilty to making false statements to Congress, also spoke with prosecutors a through the Trump campaign’s contacts with Russia, which tried to influence the election via e-mail hackers by prominent Democrats.
As late as November 2015, prosecutors Cohen were in contact with an unidentified Russian national who claimed he was a “trusted person” in the Russian government.
The person who offered the Trump campaign “Political Synergy”, the filing said and “repeatedly suggested” a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, even if such a meeting never took place.
Special advice Robert Mueller, a Trump’s frequent goal, investigates Russian mediation and if Trump’s campaign had any commitment. He also looks at whether Trump has tried to prevent the investigation.
Trump, who has consistently denied collusion and obstruction, has described Mueller’s probe as a politically motivated “witch hunt”.
Prosecutors also filed new documents in the case of Paul Manafort, claiming that he has lied about the Trump campaign and Russia as part of an agreement on agreement with Mueller’s office.
Trump and his allies said that the Manafort filing did not mean that the president was involved.
As for Cohen, assistants described the president’s former lawyer as a liar who will say something for a lighter opinion. “Mr. Cohen has repeatedly lied and, as the prosecutor has pointed out to the court, Mr. Cohen is no hero,” said White House spokesman Sarah Sanders.
After filing on Friday, Trump sent a somewhat cryptic tweet: “
Bravado or not, legal analysts said that Trump could look at major legal issues, especially with regard to Coh’s statements.
“The real news at the moment is not about Cohen’s opinion,” said Neal Katyal, former working US lawyer secretary general. “It’s about the federal prosecutors’ conclusion that Donald J. Trump has committed a serious crime.”
