WASHINGTON (Reuters) – When the Democrats take control of the US House, they plan to investigate the Trump Administration’s attempt to block AT & T Inc ( TN ) from acquiring Time Warner, and if officials tried to punish Amazon. com Inc ( AMZN.O ) by producing the US Post Office to increase shipping prices for the world’s largest e-commerce company, said a leading Democrat on Sunday.

Speaks to the online publication Axios, Representative Adam Schiff, who is expected to be the incoming Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said the Democrats will review if Trump used the powers of the federal government to punish the companies.
Representative Elijah Cummings, the likely incoming chairman of the House, the Monitoring and Reform Reform Committee, said the committee might “want to investigate” if the White House reigned against Amazon and AT & T.
Cummings also said on ABC’s “This Week “as he intends to investigate whether Trump killed plans to move the FBI’s new headquarters to move it could damage his business interests in Trump Hotel across the street.
Having won the check of the House of Representatives in the mid-term elections last week, Democrats have promised to launch investigations on a wide range of topics involving the Trump Administration.
Amazon Chief Executive Jeff Bezos owns Washington Post, while Time Warner holds CNN. Trump has lambasted both stores often for its critical coverage.
“It is very right within our responsibility to find out,” said Schiff to Axios in an interview that will fly Sunday at HBO.
Schiff said that Trump “secretly held the postmaster (generally) in an attempt to point the postmaster on raising postage on Amazon … It seems to be an attempt by the president to use state-owned instruments to punish Jeff Bezos and Washington Post, Schiff said.
It is not clear which committees can investigate business problems, as the Schiff Intelligence Committee would not have supervision. A Schiff spokesman declined further comment.
AT & T and Amazon.com both refused to comment on Sunday. Trump has said without quoting evidence that it costs US taxpayers billions of dollars and he has threatened to raise the company’s post interest rates. .
Trump opposed the AT & T-Time Warner merger as a candidate and has repeatedly attacked CNN and last week a CNN reporter’s White House press pass was interrupted.
The Justice Department appeals to a federal judge approval of the $ 85.4 billion AT & T acquisition of Time Warner.
With a split decision in last week’s congressional elections, the Democrats are planning a careful attitude. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi told CBS “Face the Nation” that Democrats will not conduct “any investigation for a political purpose without seeking the truth.”
Cummings promised a “methodical” approach when it came to investigations. “I will not give up judgments as if someone is sharing candy on Halloween,” said Cummings.
