Dallas Real Estate Agent Laura Avila, 36, had been in coma since October 30th, when something went wrong during a rhinoplasty process in Ciudad Juarez, Dallas Morning News reported. Family members told the KVIA that there was a problem when Avila was administered anesthesia that left the 36-year-old in a coma with severe brain injury.
A lawyer for her family confirmed on Saturday in a statement to WFAA that Avila died as a result of the operation.
“Laura was a beautiful woman, powerful and full of life” Lawyer Larry Friedman said in the statement. “She had the best of life before her until this tragic, unfortunate and meaningless death.”

Family members told Morning News that Avila chose to get her procedure done in Mexico because it cost less than a third of the price she could find locally. The Mexican authorities told the KVIA earlier this month that officials investigated whether the case was medical negligence.
“So her death is not in vain, people should think about Laura before looking for cross-border discount surgery,” Friedman told WFAA. “They should do their homework and investigate the experience, training and record of someone before signing up. Always look before jumping!”
Laura Avila’s younger sister, Angie Avila, remembered her as “the best sister in the world” in a Saturday on Facebook.
“My heart hurts, and I really do not know how or if I will ever overcome this pain,” she wrote. “She’s love in my life, and I know she’ll keep watch over me and steer me just as she always. I love you, Laura Avila.”
