Crotch shot to Yankees surprise hero Gio Urshela looms now

Gio Urshela fouled a ball from the plate in the third inning that bounced up and hit him under the belt and sent him down to the ground for several minutes during the Yankees 13-5 win over the rays on Sunday. He finished the bat and knocked out and played the next three innings before being replaced by pinch-hitter Thairo Estrada in the sixth. "I think he's okay," says manager Aaron Boone. "He had a hard time running. I don't think it's too big. We were careful because he didn't feel too big." Dellin Betances (right shoulder padding) made 50 throws from 90 feet Sunday, expecting to push it to 110 feet in the next few days and said he does not have any problems with his shoulder. Betances has said he expects to return to the bullpen next month, but does not look too far ahead. 1 9659002] "I had a setback, so we don't want the same problem again, & # 39; & # 39; Betances said about his April simulated games when he didn't feel right. He finished the bat and knocked out and played the next three innings before being replaced by pinch-hitter Thairo Estrada in the sixth.

“I think he’s okay,” says manager Aaron Boone. “He had a hard time running. I don’t think it’s too big. We were careful because he didn’t feel too big.”

Gary Sanchez led off the fifth against Diego Castillo with a shot from the wall bouncing away from Brandon Lowe to the right, allowing Sanchez to come all the way to third for his first triple of his career. According to Elias Sports Bureau, Sanchez had the second largest balls among active players without a triple in his career (1,101). Only Seattle’s Ryon Healy had more (1,541). Former Yankee Erik Kratz now moved to others on that list with 840 bats without triple.

Brett Gardner knocked out a 2-in-26 picture with three hits, including a homer who was his first extras base since May 6. Two of Gardner’s hits on Sunday came in seventh round sixth. Gardner is the first Yankee with two hits in the same inning since Mark Teixeira in Cleveland on July 10, 2016.

“He got some places in the zone and was aggressive,” Boone says.

“[There was] just not much goes right,” Gardner said. “I don’t know what went wrong, but just have to rely on the process.”

Chance Adams beat the last three innings and did not run in his first outing to the Yankees this season. He was an alternative to Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre after the game to allow the Yankees to add a resting arm for Monday’s game in Baltimore.
