After a few weeks in testing phase, Google Chrome 66 has finally reached Android, incorporating interesting news that users of the famous browser for Android you can already try. The deployment has begun through Google Play , just a day after the version for Mac, Linux and Windows was also updated to the latest version.

Among the novelties of Chrome 66, we will find a new design called Modern Design , the possibility of activating the Chrome Duplex format, restrictions on automatic video playback , and much more that we happened to see next.

All the new features of Chrome 66 for Android

The first relevant change that lega together with Chrome 66, are the restrictions on the automatic playback of videos. Hereinafter, In order for a video to be able to be reproduced on a web page, one of the following conditions must be met:

  • The content is muted or does not include audio.
  • Users must have clicked on the web page previously.
  • On the mobile, if the web page has been added to the home page as a direct access.

In case of none of the conditions, the video content can not be reproduced automatically, thus preventing the web pages bomb to users with videos with the maximum sound.

On the other hand, in the same way that we already found in the desktop version, Chrome 66 for Android now offers the possibility of Export passwords to stored websites . To do this, just click on the new menu button in the password settings panel, and select the export option, which will create a .csv file that will be stored in the phone memory, and can later be shared or imported in other browsers.

Although the two mentioned novelties, are the only ones that are currently active in Chrome 66, this update also incorporates several new features that, despite remaining hidden, can already be used. The first one is “Modern Design”, a new appearance for the interface, which receives more rounded and modern lines , inspired by the design guides Material Design 2 in which Google has been working for several months, and that probably will be released next to Android P .

To enable this interface, it will be necessary to access the address chrome: // flags / # enable-chrome-modern-design and enable the option. Afterwards, restarting the browser twice, we will see how the appearance has changed, starting with the search bar that now becomes rounded and with a flatter interface .

On the other hand, the possibility of activating the “Chrome Duplex” format has also been included. This system, that at the time we show you in more detail , divides the browser interface into two different parts : a top part with the search bar, and a lower slider bar, from which to access the bookmarks, history and a new browser tab. In order to activate this option, you will have to follow the same steps as in the case of “Modern Design”, only in this case through the address chrome: // flags / # enable-chrome-duplex .

Chrome 66 for Android also lays the foundation for a new method to be able to copy images and other information to the browser , thanks to the Asynchronous Clipboard API, as well as a system that will allow developers improve the quality and latency of the output audio in web pages. All the novelties already appear in the latest version of the browser, available for download from Google Play.
