Celebrate 50 years of space facts with USRA Symposium today! So watch

An astronaut walking on the moon and a famous NASA mathematician joins a group of experts discussing the future of space exploration at the University Space Research Association (USRA) conference today (April 23), which lives directly online this afternoon. [19659002] USRA will be streaming its 50th anniversary conference, "Exploring New Space Frontiers", from Washington, DC, and you can see it live here at Space.com with permission Usra. The event runs from 1 am to 5 pm Harrison H. Schmitt a former NASA astronaut walking on the moon under Apollo 17, the last Apollo mission to the moon, 1972. Schmitt is the only scientist astronaut who performs geology on the surface of another world. He is also a former US senator. Also on the agenda are Christine Darden, a former NASA mathematician and aviation technician who worked for the agency during the 1960s. This era was presented in the book 2016 (and 2017 film) "Hidden Figures," which shows a time when black Americans participated in the space program as mathematicians and computer programmers. Contributions from these people during NASA's early aerospace program could not be widely recognized until the last few years. Other speakers on the agenda include Jan Worner, Director General of the European Space Agency. Marcia McNutt, President of the National Academy of Sciences; and Scott M. Pace, executive secretary of National Space Council . You can view the full agenda and schedule online . USRA was founded in 1969, partly because of NASA's inquiry, as a non-profit organization…

USRA was founded in 1969, partly because of NASA’s inquiry, as a non-profit organization that allows researchers and researchers to review lunar material samples that the Apollo astronauts gathered in 1969 and 1972. The 50th anniversary of the first target landing , Apollo 11, takes place on July 20.

“Now – 50 years later – USRA’s mission includes far broader space and aerospace-related scientific exploration through advanced research, technology, and education programs, space and aerospace formation, and the operation and management of world-class facilities and initiatives through consortium of 110 universities, the private sector and federal and foreign governments, USRA officials said in a statement .
