A frequent but debatable criticism of Bryce Harper’s game over the years has been his temporary lack of effort. So, of course, when the opportunity arose for the new Phillies signing to show some gusto with their basic driving, it went pretty bad.
Philadelphia’s Cesar Hernandez struck a victim flying to the midfield as Twins outfielder Byron Buxton caught quite easily. Just as Harper drew up to score third, Buxton threw a laser at home that seemed to beat the runner with a decent margin. In an attempt to impress the Troika Philly, Harper tried to prevent the popular Willian’s Astudillo at home. But Harper’s hops were not really dingy with Astudillo’s reach and the prisoner could take him out before he came home plate.
