Body of Ray Taliaferro, a long-standing KGO radio talk show host and a pioneer of African American radio personalities in the United States, has been found in Paducah, Kentucky, about one mile from where he was last seen on November 1

0th.

According to Taliaferro’s son Rafael, his father’s body was on a small tree-lined parcel near Brooks Stadium, a baseball stadium in central Paducah, a city across the Ohio River from Metropolis, Illinois.

Raphael Taliaferro released a statement today, which reads:

“It’s very sad that the Taliaferro family has to announce that Ray Taliaferro passed. His body was found in Paducah, Kentucky in a wooded area about one mile from where he was last seen The family appreciates the support and help we received when looking for Ray. This is a devastating end to our search for him in recent weeks. The family is working with the police to learn things surrounding his death. At this time we treat this event and request integrity when we work through our loss. “

Paducah Police Sgt. Travis Watson late tonight would not reveal much information about death, except to say that his department is working on a survey on a body found in Paducah. Watson did not confirm that the body was Taliaferro, or what day it was discovered.

A fly formerly distributed by the Paducah Police Department stated that Ray Taliaferro, 79, had last seen 10 November talking with the head of the Mellow Mushroom Pizza Restaurant in Paducah. The wall also said that Taliaferro may have experienced “disorientation and signs of dementia”.

Taliaferro, a proud liberal who hosted his KGO overnight program from 1986 to 2011, is also a former head of the San Francisco chapter of the NAACP. He is credited with the first black talk show hosted at a major market radio station (New York City) and was San Francisco’s first black member of the Art Commission.

Published reports have said that Taliaferro and his wife were in the Paducah / Metropolis area that visits land in Brookport, Illinois, which his wife recently inherited.
