Which video games and consoles sold best in October? The NPD Group has released its report for the month, revealing that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 peaked the software sales chart while Sony’s PlayStation 4 was the best console of the month in the United States.
Rounding five best-selling games, in order, were Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, NBA 2K19 and Super Mario Party. In particular, while Red Dead Redemption 2 had an amazing excellent first day (it sent 17 million copies already), it launched at the end of the month (October 26) compared to a new release in October (October 12) for Black Ops 4. According to the NPD, Black Ops 4’s first month dollar sales came to the eighth largest as NPD began tracking sales in 1
995. After just one month, Black Ops 4 is now the best-selling game 2018 in the United States and the second best-selling game in the following 12-month period , just behind Call of Duty: WWII. Black Ops 4 seems to have no traditional campaign, did not hurt sales as some may have predicted. The reporting period for October was October 7 through November 3.
In the case of Red Dead Redemption 2, it is now the second best-selling game in 2018. Turnover was three times higher than the first month of Red Dead Redemption 1 sales in 2010.
Combined with console, portable and PC sales were combined Total program revenue more than doubled from October to $ 965 million. It’s good for the best October in the NPD story, and consisted of the previous high of $ 743 million from October 2008. In particular, the Call of Duty franchise usually expires in November, while Red Dead Redemption 2 is a single consolation type game, then better results were expected than usual.
When Sony moved to the hardware, PlayStation 4 was the best-selling console in October 2018 in terms of sales units and total revenue. October was PS4’s best October ever for device sales, while total dollar sales were October’s peak ever since October 2014. Around all platforms, total hardware expenditures increased 26 percent over the previous year to 300 million dollars. PS4 and Xbox One released “significant gains” but other platforms fell.
Overall, the total cost of video games in the US increased in October 2018 to $ 1.55 billion, which is 73 percent. October 2018 represented the best month since the NPD began tracking video game sales in 1995. The previous record was $ 1.36 billion from October 2008.
