AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) – A person has died in a devastating fire in the Heather Gardens Retirement Community in Aurora. The fire started Friday evening at East Linvale Place.
Saturday afternoon, Heather Gardens Announced announced the victim’s identity as Carol Ross. The association also told residents that they will have board members to answer questions.
“This is one of the most serious events ever to happen in Heather Gardens. To ensure that accurate information is provided to all residents, board members volunteer for change at the clubhouse to help staff answer phone calls and talk to residents with questions. Further information will be made available as it becomes known. “
” Our hearts go out to the many residents affected by this tragedy and our department offers our deepest compassion to the victim’s family on this very sad day, “says Aurora Four Chief Fernando Gray, Sr. “We will continue to investigate the cause of this event.”
Aurora Fire Rescue Officers Say A Colorado Task Dog Search Team Force One found Ross’s body in one of the patio shelters.
The fire burned home after a gas explosion that injured a firefighter and a civilian, both taken to the hospital. The fireman has since been released. As a result, the damage is not life threatening.
Aurora Fire Lt. Laure Bridges said that the fire started in what is called “patio home” or “ready home” and that it was a “gas-fired fire”.
