EAST BOOTHBAY – A marine science laboratory in Maine collaborates with an artist to improve the understanding of Antarctic marine viruses through art.

Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences says it is mating with Justin Levesque of Portland on the project. Levesque will work with researchers Joaquin Martinez Martinez and Silvia Cretoiu, who study marine viruses on the project.

The lab says that Levesque will spend time in the lab during the next six weeks learning marine science. He will focus on research investigating viruses in Antarctica lakes that were formed thousands of years ago.

The lab says that the project will end on an art exhibition for public viewing in the summer of 201
