AP RECAP: Eno Benjamin made a 22-yard touchdown and Arizona State survived one last-minute goal attempt, rallying from a 19-point defeat to beat rival Arizona 41-40 on Saturday.

Arizona (5-7, 4-5 Pac-12) led 40-21 in the fourth quarter after Khalil Tate threw his third TD game in the match, 8 meters to Tony Ellison.

Arizona State (7-5, 5-4) started its rally with Manny Wilkins 11-yard touchdown run and 2-point conversion. Aashari Crosswell’s intercept returns to the Arizona 22-yard line set up Brandon Ruiz’s 39-yard field goal, then resumed Sun Devils J.J. Taylor’s fumble on the Arizona 22-yard line.

Benjamin broke up the middle, cut out and finished his third touchdown of the game to put the soldiers up 41

-40 at 3:08 left.

The Wildcats returned the ball and marched down the field, but Josh Pollack, who scored four field goals, drove a 45-meter attempt to the right to the right with 11 seconds left.

Wilkins threw for 265 yards and a TD for Sun Devils, who denied Arizona’s bid to be bowl qualified for coach Kevin Sumlin’s first season.

Tate threw himself for 282 meters and three touchdowns, and Taylor had 144 meters on 28 berries.

Arizona State finished the bowl with a victory over the UCLA and missed a chance to clinch Pac-12 South by losing to Oregon last week. Wildcat’s bid fell flat in a blowout loss to No. 7 Washington State.
