Apple now has several models with dual camera smartphones, but other manufacturers, including Huawei and LG, already have at least three devices. Samsung even released a mid-range model, the Galaxy A7, with a triple rear camera set. Adding a third camera would allow Apple to offer more consumer-friendly photographic features such as telephones and enhanced “bokeh” blurred backgrounds. A three-camera iPhone has been rumored earlier, as shown in the picture below.
According to WSJ Apple is not necessarily anxious to build another budget-oriented XR unit. However, the next model has been developed for several months and it would be too difficult and expensive to change gears. By 2020, it plans to build all its iPhones with OLED screens, providing superior contrast and color reproduction.
iPhone looks less competitive every year against models from Huawei and other companies that are now least technologically advanced. In that sense it will be interesting to see how it goes on next year to try to regain its advantage. In the meantime, however, it still needs to sell iPhones, so it appears that XR units will remain until at least 2020.
