Democratic Challenger Andy Kim declared victory over the Republican American Republic Tom MacArthur, R-3, Wednesday even though the tight competition for the 3rd Congressional District remained rude.
The district, which stretches between Burlington County in the Philadelphia suburbs and Ocean County along the beach, has been largely held by GOP in the last three decades.
The AP has not called the race. It was among the most popular in the country.
Unofficially Burlington County returns posted late Wednesday, Kim showed more than 2000 voting rights over the two-year-old commander. MacArthur said on Wednesday night via Twitter that he was not ready to acknowledge the race.
“This has been a tough fight campaign and, like Andy Kim, I’m ready to see it come to an end,” says MacArthur’s statement. “I have always said that I will be ruled by voters in the district and there are almost 7000 more of them who have not yet heard. We must ensure that their voices ̵
1; and all voices – are openly categorized as protecting the integrity of the election . ”
Officials have said that they are still planning to count on preliminary voting and further submission meetings postmarked after the election day that continues to arrive.
Burlington County Board of Directors, Chairman Joe Dugan said There were about 26,000 submitted votes.
In the GOP-leaning part of the district, Jason Varano, Ocean County election board, said that about 31,000 submission votes are already reflected in results published online.
Officials say preliminary voting continues to count.
MacArthur supported Trump more often than any other member of the New Jersey Congress delegation, according to Nate Silvers FiveThirtyEight.
He helped save the president’s attempt to abolish the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, by creating a compromise for states to opt out of terminating existing insurance terms. The provision made it possible for patients with chronic ongoing diseases to not be denied insurance coverage.
But MacArthur, 58, a former health insurance director, emphasized that he was someone who has worked for bipartisan solutions in Congress and noticed Kim’s campaign as a Trumf protest.
He criticized Kim for being a liberal democrat and having benefited from TV commercials paid by a political action committee by the American House’s democratic leader Nancy Pelosi. Kim had made a campaign attempt to not accept the company’s PAC money.
Kim, 36, who had never run for chosen offices earlier, was a civilian adviser to military leaders in Afghanistan and Iraq and national security helper in the Democratic president Barack Obama’s administration
MacArthur accused Kim of embellishing his resume and denouncing him as an “entry level” employee during their trips abroad.
Kim criticized MacArthur for managing Trump on the Obamacare suspension, which eventually lasted in the United States Senate with the late vote of Sen. John McCain. Kim also attacked MacArthur to vote for Trump’s tax reduction plan, which was law and eliminated all but $ 10,000 in deduction for state and local taxes, a favorite deduction for residents in the northeastern part of the country, especially New Jersey.
The 3rd district includes Burlington and Ocean County and the 40,000 acres of common base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. The major military facility has been an economic engine in the region since its opening in 1938.
Democrats have captured at least 10 of 12 residential sites in New Jersey and browse three of them.
