As concerts for entertainment, Mr. Collier to control the Fox Broadcasting unit in Fox and lead his programming strategy. In addition to Fox Broadcasting, new Fox assets include Fox News and Fox Business channels and Fox Sports.
At AMC Networks Inc., Collier was chairman of the AMC cable channel, its production studio and the Sundance TV channel. He supervised AMC during a time of immense growth in popularity thanks to original programs such as “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad.”
“Charlie is an outstanding talent combining creative success with operational expertise to lead the AMC network with some of the most memorable programming in the world,” said Fox Chief Executive Lachlan Murdoch.
Mr. Collier will report to Mr. Murdoch.
Most famous for its animated hits “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy” and its drama “9-1
-1″ on first responders, the Fox Network has changed its programming strategy as late to have more live- sports program. Fox signed a deal for Thursday night football rights this season and will also start with the WWE show “Smackdown” next October. It also recently reached an agreement to wear boxing starting in December.
21st Century Fox and News Corp, the parent company of The Wall Street Journal, share common ownership.
So far this season, Fox is a decent beginning in grades. In addition to a boost from Thursday’s night football, the new a Friday night with comedies “Last Man Standing” and “Cool Kids” worked well.
But Collier will still face challenges in his new role. Among the assets that 21st Century Fox sells to Disney is its television production studio, which is the largest provider of content to the network. The other major networks including Disney’s ABC and
NBC has its own production units. While Fox can make own shows, it’s likely to need to acquire most of the content from external vendors.
In a statement, Collier said the new Fox “combines the power and reach of a broadcast department, some of the best assets on earth to build entertainment groups and fan engagement and a proven leadership team with a” start mentality “for new rules.” Mr. Collier is the last big rent for new Fox. Other senior executives include John Nallen, 21st Century Fox Finance Manager, who will be Chief Secretary of Fox and Viet Dinh, who went down from the 21st Century Fox Board to become Chief Legal Officer and Chief of Politics. Former White House Communications Director Hope Hicks was appointed Executive Committee.
Dana Walden and Gary Newman, president and CEO of Fox Television Group, will remain in their current roles until the transaction ends. Ms. Walden leaves a leading role at Walt Disney Co. Mr. Newman said he plans to make his own possibilities.
AMC Networks did not immediately name a replacement for Collier, as Chief Operating Officer Ed Carroll praised for helping build AMC into a powerful brand and power in original programming. The company’s other senior executives include Dave Madden, a former chief of Fox Broadcasting, which began a year ago as president of AMC asset programming.
