COLLEGE STATION – About Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald needs a confidence statement right now, Texas A & M player is unlucky to give it.

“We’ve played a couple of guys who have had speed, but this guy has some power to him too,” said A & M defensive end Landis Durham about his coworker. “He’s a pretty big cat.”

] Over the past two seasons, Fitzgerald, now in a quarterback controversy on MSU, has renamed Aggies (5-2, 3-1 SEC) who visits the Bulldogs (4-3, 1-3) and Starkville, Miss., At 6 pm Saturday at ESPN.

“He can run for days and he killed us with the legs,” said A & M defensive linear Kingsley Keke. “We must be responsible for it.” [1

9659005] Fitzgerald rushed 182 meters last time A & M played at MSU two years ago – including 74 meters for a touchdown on Bulldog’s first game from scrimmage – and 105 last year on Kyle Field, both MSU victories. Bulldogs 35-28 Triumph at Davis Wade Stadium in 2016 was especially painful for Aggies, given that they were flicked No. 4 in the first Co Llege Football Playoff rank as season days before traveling to Starkville.

“This kind of set tone,” Fitzgerald said last summer on his 74-yard sprint that stunned Aggies out of the gate. “We scored 28 points in the first half and in the second half we had (seven) points. I’m extremely grateful that our defense could hold up and win that game.”

That game was closer than it did last season in College Station, a 35-14 Bulldog winner who was still another nail in the grave of Kevin Sumlin’s time in six seasons at A & M.

“It was a crazy atmosphere – it was loud,” recalled Fitzgerald. “It helped us to start (strong) early. That kind of got the masses out of it so we could hear and make our checks and read. And then the defense defended and really helped us.”

Now, the new A & M coach Jimbo Fisher’s only single crack at Fitzgerald – if it’s Fitzgerald. If he fights early against 16 Aggies, the sophomore backup Keytaon Thompson expects to earn a lot of playing time.

“The guy is a good player – he will rebound,” Fisher assured Fitzgerald, the SEC’s full-time rushing yards (3,130) of a quarterback. “He has played in some big games”.

Fitzgerald appeared on Saturday at LSU, a 19-3 victory of the No. 4 Tigers. He led all rushers with 131 yards on 23 berries, but completed only 8 of 24 passes for 59 yards to go with four interceptions.

“Three points will not cut it,” said MSU coach Joe Moorhead about Bulldog’s “Overall Offensive Efforts Last Week.

Moorhead replaced Dan Mullen, who last bumped to Florida, and just before MSU announced Moorhead’s employment said Fitzgerald Moorhead by text: “I want you to clear a seat on your Heisman Trophy jacket, and I want to know your ring size, you will need it. “

The Bulldogs, who slipped from the top 25 after their two-stroke LSU backlash, are a long way from such a bravado, but they are still little favored at home over the Aggies, trying to win four consecutive SEC games for the third time since they came to league 2012.
