The TV’s revival / reboot is really in full swing, with shows like Full House, Roseanne, Twin Peaks, Will & Grace, and many others return after years of varying degrees of success. Can the US version of the office be next? There have been some reports that the show will return, but NBC has not yet made any official announcements.
While waiting for official words, the teas continue for an Office revival. Angela Kinsey, who played Angela from the show on the show, published a picture on Twitter today by herself and (almost) all the main casts participated in some sort of gathering. The gathering, whatever it was, took place at the home of Greg Daniels, as famously adapted Ricky Gervais Office for American TV.
Depicted here are Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute), Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesly), Leslie David Baker Stanley Hudson), Brian Baumgartner (Kevin Malone), Ed Helms (Andy Bernard), Paul Liberstein (Toby Flenderson), Phyllis Smith (Phyllis Vance), Creed Bratton (Creed Bratton) and Oscar Nunez (Oscar Martinez) Kinsey and Daniels.
As you notice immediately, no people are missing. John Krasinski, who played Jim Halpert, is nowhere to see, nor Steve Carrel, the glue that held the show together with his character Michael Scott. According to a report, the character Michael Scott will not restart, with the show instead getting a new boss. As for Krasinski, there are a number of reasons why he was not in the picture, even though he re-tweeted Kinsey’s image today . Also missing is B.J. Novak (Ryan Howard) and Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapoor) who, in addition to their actors, wrote some episodes of the office. Kate Flannery, who played Meredith Palmer, is also not somewhere to see, nor any of the characters from the newer seasons like Ellie Kemper (Erin Hannon).
In July, Krasinski said he would love to reunite with his Office castmates for something new; He called them his family. Krasinski also said he thinks the office could return as a single Christmas special.
On a November episode of Saturday Night Live, Carrel spotted the audience with a playful opening monologue members talked about bringing the show back because they needed the money. Even Carrel’s real family urged him to do that. You can see the stupid segment below.
Before Carell said in an interview that he thinks it’s a bad idea to take back the office. Not only does the show not come back, but it may not work if it has a similar tone.
“The climate is different. I mean the whole thought of the character, Michael Scott, so much of it was based on inappropriate behavior.”
Michael Scott is uncomfortable and a jerk is one thing, said Carell, but this attitude would probably not fly in 2018. “Much of what is shown on that show is completely but I just do not know how it would fly now. It is a very high awareness of offensive things today – which is good, sure. But at the same time, when you take a sign of this way, for literally, it does not work properly, he said.
