JERUSALEM – The Office of a Supreme Israeli Cabinet Minister says he will travel to Oman next week after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Gulf.

Arye Shalicar, advisor to Transport Minister Yisrael Katz, said Sunday that Katz will attend an international transport conference. He says Katz, who is also Israel’s intelligence minister, will share his proposal to build a rail link between Israel and the Arabian Gulf.

Israel and Oman confirmed Friday Netanyahu’s trip to Oman, the first visit of an Israeli leader for 22 years. Israel and Oman have no formal diplomatic relations.

Netanyahu often speaks of warming behind the scenes with Arab countries. In another sign of these ties, Israel’s sports minister in the United Arab Emirates is an international judiciary.
