A transgender woman attacked in Dallas last month has died

Last month's attack took place on April 12, shortly after Ms. Booker was involved in a car accident in the parking lot of an apartment complex. A video of the episode showed a man the authorities identified as Thomas Thomas constantly punching a woman on the ground as she fought. Other men in the audience kicked her before a group of women helped her get away. Police said people in the crowd shouted anti-gay slurs during the blows, and that Ms. Booker was concussed with concussion and a cracked wrist. Attacks on transgender have risen, according to advocate groups. At least 26 transgenes were killed in the United States last year, most of them black transgender women, according to the Human Campaign, an advocacy group. The group has listed three transgenes that were killed in 2019 – not including Ms. Booker – and all were black women who were killed nicely. These numbers can underestimate the problem because local officials are not required to report such deaths to any central database, and since the police sometimes release false names or sex, making it difficult to know that a hit by murder was transgender. At a press conference after she was attacked last month, Ms. Booker was standing on a podium and met a group of followers, several of whom carried characters in support of transgender people.
