Analysts will look for details about PayPal’s peer-to-peer payment app, Venmo, who has struggled to prove itself as a broker for the payment company. Earlier this year, PayPal presented new “checkout button” options for online retailers to do it earlier to show Venmo as payment options on their websites and apps.
“Although the revenue generation of Venmo remains a long-term strategy not expected until FY20), the inability to show progress on this initiative could damage estimates and valuation multiples,” said Mizuho Bank analyst Thomas McCrohan in a listing to customers for PayPal revenue. In September, PayPal CEO Dan Schulman outlined a plan to make money on the app, Yahoo Finance said that Venmo merchants, not consumers, would pay the bill.
Investors will also look for details about PayPal’s M & A strategy for the call . Earlier this year, the company announced a 2.2 billion deal to buy the European payment launch iZettle, which was scheduled to be publicly available on Nasdaq in Stockholm, and has also agreed to purchase Hyperwall, Jetlore and Simility this year.
Stiff analyst Scott Devitt expects investors to focus on recently announced acquisition v and integration plans, the Venmo Monetization Roadmap, the company’s ongoing partnership, progress in emerging geographic areas, including India and Brazil, and an update of the company’s product development efforts.
On Thursday, the company announced new features and an expansion of its existing partnership with American Express, which also reports results after the clock. American Express customers can now send money via Venmo or PayPal directly from their Amex mobile app, pay credit card bills with existing Venmo balances, and use Amex Membership Rewards for PayPal purchases.
