30 people were injured after heavy turbulence on flights landing at JFK Airport, officials say.

JAMAICA, Queens (WABC) – 30 people were injured after heavy turbulence aboard a Turkish flight from Istanbul landing at JFK Airport on Saturday night, officials say. 28 passengers and two crew members were evaluated on the spot for life-threatening injuries just before 6 pm Ten people were taken to the hospital. Some passengers hit the head of the planet's roof. Passengers say the heart-pounding turbulence lasted about six minutes. When it was over, another row had damaged or bleed every other row. Officials say severe turbulence caused bruises, cuts, a broken leg and gasp on some passenger's heads. A visible airline crew member was lifted out of the terminal with a bandage around the leg. Several small children were also in need of medical care. The aircraft with 326 passengers aboard was over Maine when it happened. Passengers say the heart-pounding turbulence lasted about six minutes. When it was over, another row had damaged or bleed every other row. Officials say severe turbulence caused bruises, cuts, a broken leg and gasp on some passenger’s heads.

Turkish Airlines confirms that its TK01 Istanbul – New York Flight encountered an unusual turbulence about 40 minutes before landing at New York JFK Airport. The Boeing 777 aircraft, which had taken off from Istanbul with 326 passengers and 18 crew members, landed safely at the airport at 17:35 on Saturday, after experiencing the turbulence. 28 passengers on board and 2 cabin crews who had incurred life-threatening injuries were taken to the hospital at the flight landing, for their overall control. Turkish Airlines, the airline whose top priority is safety and passenger well-being, is deeply saddened by this unfortunate experience and closely follows the health status of injured passengers and makes resources available to them.
