2019 WGC Mexico Championship Leaderboard, Ratings: Dustin Johnson Cruises to 20th PGA Tour Victory

The statistics, as incredible as they were, do not tell the whole story of Dustin Johnson's monster in 2019 WGC-Mexico Championship win, the 20th PGA Tour victory in his career. D.J. handed out a five-point title over Rory McIlroy and 10 strokes over the rest of the field with a handsome 5-under 66 on Sunday in the final round which included a closing 31 in nine back, just for the show at that time. 19659002] Johnson made his first bogey this week (not the day, the week!) On the third hole on Sunday (he also had a double bogey on Saturday) and stayed a little with eight 4s and a 3 on the front nine. McIlroy didn't really shoot him when he shot a 1 -over 36 by himself on the front. Then the fireworks began. Johnson birdied his first two on the back nine, and he and McIlroy combined for a best ball 29 who came home with 11 birdies between them, which was good for Rory but good for DJ Add them all and Johnson had 22 birdies and an eagle of the week. He finished others from tee to green and first in putting. He got over five beats per round on this year's best area in a sport where something north of five is pretty much a guaranteed victory. He was more or less flawless on the scorecard, but that doesn't mean there were no bumps on the road. Johnson received several hostile decisions this weekend…

Add them all and Johnson had 22 birdies and an eagle of the week. He finished others from tee to green and first in putting. He got over five beats per round on this year’s best area in a sport where something north of five is pretty much a guaranteed victory. He was more or less flawless on the scorecard, but that doesn’t mean there were no bumps on the road.

Johnson received several hostile decisions this weekend which gave him free drops cleared of debris. He also made pair-saving putter at 18 feet and 6 feet at the front in his last round. When the last 18 tried to go sideways, Johnson would not let it go. He crushed it in the ground, defeated one of the best in the game that played and he played in the years and made some history in the process.

“I fought the last couple of weeks,” Johnson told NBC on Sunday. “I came here on Monday and talked to [coach Butch Harmon] … worked on it and it clicked this week. I hit it really well this week.”

“To get 20 wins here is very difficult,” he added later. “Doing that before I turn 35 is pretty incredible, it means a lot. This is a great profit for me and gives me a lot of confidence in the rest of the year.”

McIlroy threw lots of blows over the weekend. He led the field from tee to green and close to the hole, and had a top 20 put week. Again, this is McIlroy’s statistics. Led the field from tee to green and proximity to the hole . The guy who completed a remote second.
