Two Chicago police officers were killed Monday night when they were hit by a train while they investigated a conversation of fights shot on the city’s long side, sources said.
Officers monitored a ShotSpotter report when they struck off an outbound South Shore train at the 103th Street Rosemoor stop near 103rd Street and Dauphin Avenue around 06:20
Metra officials shut down all traffic on Metra Electric District tracks on Monday evening while the authorities worked on the spot.  The northern Indiana Commuter Transport District, which operates South Shore trains, uses Metra Tracks.
Officer’s death was similar to an incident on West Side 2002 where officer Benjamin Perez was killed by a Metra train on a dock under investigation.
The two Chicago police officers who died on Monday were among four killed in service this year. Their death comes about a month after Officer Samuel Jimenez, 28, was killed in a mass shooting at Mercy Hospital & Medical Center on Near South Side. Two women, Dr. Tamara O & # 39; Neal, 38, and the pharmacist Dayna Less, 24, were also killed in the shot on November 19th.
February 13, Cmdr. Paul Bauer, 53, was fatal shot when he chased suspiciously on a stairwell outside the Thompson Center in Loop.
