Ray Chavez, the oldest veteran survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack, has died, his beloved confirmed.

Chavez died overnight, quietly in sleep, told his cousin NBC 7. He was 106.

In March, Poway residents celebrated their 105th birthday with a solid workout at their gym. A couple of days later, a big party was held for him on the flight deck aboard the USS Midway.

At that time, Chavez told NBC 7 that he had hit the gym on his birthday so that he could feel he had easily served a spot. Still at 105 he was fast-white, charismatic and humble.

Chavez served missions on a mining road and attacked transport vessels 77 years ago and responded to Pearl Harbor on the morning of December 7, 1941.

In recent years, the veteran often answered questions from reporters about how he had done so through such a long life so happy and healthy.

“Listen to the laws, for one thing,” Chavez said again.

He also said that friends were high on his list.

On his last birthday, he said his wishes for the coming year were: “Anything good comes with, I wish everyone should share it.”

Chavez was also asked what was the best advice he had ever received.

On Wednesday, NBC 7 talked to Chavez’s daughter in Poway’s family home where they lived since 1961. Kathleen said that her father was an avid gardener who loved to shout bushes and trees on her property.

She said that Chavez had not wanted to reflect on her experience of the Second World War until n probably because he was really shy. Kathleen is grateful that Chavez could share his story in recent years.
