Flu is a respiratory illness caused by the flu virus. It affects the upper respiratory system, including your lungs, throat, and nose. Influenza A and B are the most common disease in human. Its symptom begins after two days of exposure to the virus and lasts less than a week.

Generally, it attacks the people who have a chronic disease or weak immune systems like young children, older adults, pregnant women e.t.c. From a cough and sneezing, its virus is spread through the air and enter your body through the mucous membranes of your nose, mouth, and eyes.

How to protect yourself?

Here are simple and effective tips to protect yourself from this infection.

1. Getting Vaccination :

Getting the flu vaccination is one of the best and most effective ways to get rid of this infection. It has the antibodies that provide protection against the viruses that are in the vaccine.

2. Consume plenty of liquids :

Consume plenty of liquids. It protects you from the virus. You may take :

Lime water :

Lemon is full of Vitamin C and Vitamin B. It contains citric acid, so acetic in nature. It is one of the best natural sources of energy.

  • Take a glass of water.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of lime juice in it.
  • Mix it well.
  • Drink it.
Drink honey with hot water :

Honey contains 17% water and 82% carbohydrates and also contains a low amount of fats, dietary fever, and protein.  It is also rich in Vitamin-B6. It boosts your immune system and helps to reduce symptoms of the common flu.

  • Take a cup of hot water.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of honey in it.
  • Add 2 to 3 drops of lemon juice in it.
  • Drink it 2 to 3 times a day.

3. Cover Your Mouth and Nose When Coughing or Sneezing :

Must cover your mouth and nose with a tissue paper when coughing or sneezing. If a tissue paper is not available, then you may sneeze or a cough into the inside of your elbow. It prevents infectious droplets from making other people ill.

The virus spread when a person touches something that is contaminated and then touches his eyes, nose or mouth. So, try to avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth as much as possible.

5. Wash your hands :

The virus often through dirty hands that harmful microbes enter the body. So wash your hands every time you sneeze or a cough, and before meals.

6. Clean your house and surrounding areas :

The viruses may present the items you touch every day. So, clean your house and surrounding area.

7. Wear surgical gloves :

Always wear the surgical gloves when caring for someone who’s sick. Also, use this gloves before going to the area of flues.

8. Avoid to close contact with the patient :

Avoid to the close contact with the people who are suffered from this virus. The virus can travel through the air in small droplets when a patient cough or sneeze.

9. Don’t share your clothes :

Don’t share your clothes, such as – towels, dishes, toys, utensils and other personal items with a sick person. And keep a distance from the sick person.

10. Take rest :

Take rest and keep a distance from others to protect them from getting sick too. It is suggested not to go for any physical work until you are back to normal.
